Eggnog Recipe

Nothing says the holidays like a glass of creamy homemade eggnog. This cozy classic tastes rich, nostalgic, and far better than anything from the store.

Ingredients

4 large eggs, separated

3/4 cup granulated sugar

2 cups whole milk

1 cup heavy cream

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg

1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/2 cup dark rum, bourbon, or brandy (optional)

Pinch of salt

Instructions

  • Separate egg yolks and whites. Whisk yolks with half the sugar until pale and thick.
Heat milk, cream, nutmeg, cinnamon, and salt over low heat until steaming.
Slowly whisk warm milk into yolks to temper.
Return mixture to saucepan and cook gently until slightly thickened.
Remove from heat and stir in vanilla and alcohol if using.
Beat egg whites with remaining sugar until soft peaks form.
Fold egg whites into custard, chill for two hours, and serve.
