Homemade White Bread Recipe

Ingredients
  

3 ½ cups (440 g) all-purpose flour

1 packet (2 ¼ tsp) active dry yeast

1 ¼ cups (300 ml) warm water (105–110°F)

2 tbsp (25 g) granulated sugar

2 tbsp (30 g) unsalted butter, softened

1 tsp (6 g) salt

1 tbsp (15 ml) milk (optional, for brushing top)

Instructions
 

  • Activate yeast by combining warm water and sugar, letting it sit 5–10 minutes until foamy.
    Mix flour, salt, butter, and yeast mixture until a rough dough forms.
    Knead dough for 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
    Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise 1–1.5 hours until doubled.
    Punch down dough, shape into a loaf, and place in a greased 9x5-inch pan. Let rise 30–45 minutes.
    Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C), brush top with milk, and bake 30–35 minutes until golden brown.
    Cool on a wire rack 20 minutes before slicing.
