Thanksgiving Decorated Cookies Recipe

Festive, soft, and full of warm fall flavor, these Thanksgiving decorated cookies are the cutest addition to your holiday dessert table. Perfect for gifting or adding sparkle to your family feast.

Ingredients
  

2 ¾ cups (345 g) all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon baking powder

½ teaspoon baking soda

½ teaspoon fine salt

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

½ teaspoon ground nutmeg

¼ teaspoon ground ginger

¾ cup (170 g) unsalted butter, softened

1 cup (200 g) light brown sugar, packed

1 large egg

2 teaspoons vanilla extract

2 tablespoons milk

2 cups (240 g) powdered sugar

2–3 tablespoons milk

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Gel food coloring (orange, yellow, red, brown)

Instructions
 

  • Whisk the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, and ginger in a bowl.
    Beat butter and brown sugar until fluffy, then mix in egg, vanilla, and milk.
    Add dry ingredients gradually to form a soft dough.
    Chill dough for 30–45 minutes.
    Roll dough to ¼ inch, cut shapes, and place on lined baking sheets.
    Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 8–10 minutes, then cool completely.
    Mix powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla to form icing; divide and tint with gel colors.
    Outline cookies, allow to set, then flood with icing and add details.

  • Chill the dough to hold its shape.
  • Store 1 week at room temperature or freeze 2 months.
  • Try pumpkin spice or a mini variation.
